Dagens Nyheter reports that a Swedish officer serving with NATO had his computer and iPad stolen during a NATO-related conference in Lisbon last year. A Portuguese man is now facing charges of attempted espionage in Portugal.

The conference, which attracted participants from NATO and its partner countries, was held in February last year. According to the indictment, the 23-year-old Portuguese national checked into the same hotel as several of the conference participants and stole a Swedish participant's belongings.

Afterwards, he allegedly went to the Russian embassy in Lisbon to try to sell the information, an attempt that appears to have failed.

The computer and iPad were not said to have contained any confidential information.

The incident itself is serious, even if there was no loss of information or damage to the interests of the Armed Forces, Jonas Beltrame-Linné, press officer at the Armed Forces, told DN.
