Today, our legal experts have recommended that the agencies that handle asylum and deportation not make decisions on deportation or carry out any deportations to Iran for the time being, says the agency's press officer, Jesper Tengroth.
The decision was made after the Migration Board followed developments in the country and "noted that there are so many uncertainties surrounding the situation," says Tengroth, who emphasizes that it is about an "overall picture" and that there is no single event that forms the basis for the decision.
We have said that by April 14 we will have some idea of a way forward, but this could change significantly earlier, depending on what happens, says Tengroth.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Swedes in Iran to leave the country due to the unrest. Thousands of people have reportedly been killed following the protests critical of the regime.
