The government's "valve" to halt the deportations of young adults raises the age limit for applying for a residence permit as a relative from 18 to 21.
The new law, which came into force on October 1, also allows people to apply for a residence permit on another basis without first having to leave Sweden.
That provision is temporary and applies until December 31, 2027.
"Our intention is for this possibility to become permanent as well. Work on that legislation is under way, and we will move forward with it shortly," Migration Minister Johan Forssell writes to TT.
The red-green parties agreed on Tuesday to draft a stopgap law to prevent the deportation of teenagers until a permanent solution is in place.
"The issue will now be considered by the Social Insurance Committee, and we are happy to participate constructively in that preparation," Forssell says.
