On Thursday, Göran Örlander will submit the second and final report of the forest inquiry. The first one came in December last year.
Örlander writes in Dagens Nyheter that political decisions and regulations that increase forest growth and harvesting provide "opportunity to realize major societal values in the form of climate benefits, economy and employment".
He proposes, among other things, that the goals of forest policy regarding production and the environment should be clarified. He wants to see a follow-up system for forest production similar to the environmental goal system.
Örlander also wants more permissive rules for the cultivation of forest seedlings to climate-adapt forestry.
"By facilitating modern plant cultivation methods and tree species that tolerate a warmer climate, the forest can continue to be viable".
He also points out the importance of an improved working method in the EU. "If Sweden is to have a greater impact on forest issues, a clearer action is needed early in the negotiations", he writes.
