They are already the future of Swedish football – now they can also become Europe's best. The teenagers Felicia Schröder and Smilla Holmberg are nominated for the prestigious prize Golden Girl, and can as the first Swedes ever take home the award.

Two of Sweden's largest football talents continue to impress.

18-year-old Felicia Schröder and 19-year-old Smilla Holmberg, who were both recently selected for Tony Gustavsson's first national team squad, are among ten candidates for the prize, which is awarded by the Italian Tuttosport, for Europe's best player under 21 years.

For Schröder and Holmberg, the nominations are further receipts for their rocket careers.

After missing the summer's European Championship squad, Schröder has continued to shine for BK Häcken at club level, while Holmberg made a strong championship with several impressive performances – and an emotional ending after the penalty miss against England in the quarterfinals.

Among the competitors for the prize are, among others, England's Michelle Agyemang, who made a success in the European Championship with decisive goals against both Sweden and Italy.

No Swede has previously won Golden Girl. If Schröder or Holmberg succeed, they will thus write history.
