The decision to boycott FIFA tournaments was taken unanimously by UEFA's 55 member nations during Thursday's emergency meeting.
"We also see significant risks in opening up FIFA's competitions to private ownership. Football's most important competitions should be developed based on what is best for football, not based on external investors' return requirements," says Simon Åström.
The Swedish Football Association further writes that a proposal with "such far-reaching consequences for international football must be handled through an open, transparent and well-established process."
"A proposal of this importance cannot be presented with a short response time and without the dialogue and consultation that is required. Therefore, it is important that we together mark the process," says Åström.
