Swedish Fishery Faces EU Environmental Criticism

All companies with fewer than 3000 employees should be exempt from the requirements in the EU's new sustainability directive, CSR, believes Swedish EU parliament member Jörgen Warborn (The Moderate Party).

”This is how we strengthen the EU's economy”, writes Warborn in a statement from the conservative party group EPP after he presented his proposal on how the parliament should stand on one of the EU Commission's first simplification proposals from earlier this spring.

Thus, he goes significantly further than the commission's original proposal, which set its limit at 1,000 employees. This is not appreciated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

”Another devastating blow to the climate and nature, human rights, and long-term business interests,” comments WWF in a press release.

The CSR directive stipulates that companies in the EU must ensure that subcontractors and other suppliers meet various work and environmental requirements.
