The Swedish film "Ufo Sweden" will soon be released in cinemas in the USA, the UK, and Australia. There, it will be the first feature-length film ever to use the new AI technology "visual dubbing", writes Dagens Nyheter.
The technology adapts the actors' facial expressions to the English-language dubbing. The actors themselves thus record the English dialogue in a studio, and the AI then synchronizes their lip movements in the film to make the dialogue also appear visually authentic.
"Ufo Sweden" is a genre film that has a clear audience, but the language is a limitation, especially in the USA where almost no one watches films with subtitles. Now, the entire film has been adapted to feel like it was shot in English from the start, says Olle Tholén, producer at the film collective Crazy Pictures, to DN.
"Ufo Sweden" premiered in 2022 and was nominated for two Guldbaggar.
