Sweden will be the loser in the allocation of EU funds earmarked for agriculture, believes the Federation of Swedish Farmers and directs criticism at the EU's long-term budget proposal.

The European Commission's proposal for a long-term budget for the period 2028-2034 was presented in the summer and means that the proportion going to agriculture is significantly reduced. In addition, the regional support is changed, which often goes to areas where the farmers are located.

According to the Swedish Farmers' National Association (LRF), the proposed allocation of funds means that Sweden is allocated five billion euros - 1.69 percent of the total appropriations for agriculture.

"Swedish farmers are clear losers when the earmarked funds for Sweden are reduced by 25 percent compared to the previous period", says Palle Borgström, chairman of LRF in a press release.

The proposal for the EU's long-term budget is the beginning of a long negotiation and a final agreement is expected at the earliest in the spring of 2027.
