Beachvolleyball talents Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson are in the semifinal in the World Championship rehearsal in South Africa after having crushed the German Olympic Games silver medalists Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler. It was a really good performance today, says Andersson.

Jacob Hölting Nilsson, 20, and Elmer Andersson, 19, won the quarterfinal in the World Championship tournament over Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler with 2–0 (21–13, 21–13).

We thought it would be harder. We trained with them in Newport a few weeks ago and could barely stop them. It was really fun that it went so well, says Andersson to SVT.

In the first set, the Germans kept up initially, but then the Swedes took off to a five-point lead (12–7) which was then extended to 21–13.

In the second, the Swedes took command directly, had 15–6 and won in the end with 21–13. Ehlers/Wickler did not play at their best level, but that does not detract from the Swedish effort which was very strong.

They made it easy for us today, but we also made a really good effort.

On Sunday, the semifinals, final and match for third place will be played in the World Championship tournament in Cape Town. The Swedes will face the Norwegians Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen in the semifinal.

We have met them once before, in Brasilia, we lost closely there. They are tough, stable and do not make many mistakes, says Andersson.

The World Championship will be played in Adelaide, Australia, starting on November 13. Then, the Swedish Olympic gold medalists David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig are also expected to be back on the beach court. Åhman is currently struggling with knee problems.

Corrected: in an earlier version, the wrong first name of the semifinal opponent Berntsen was stated. The correct one is Mathias.
