The blue-and-yellow men have already qualified for the knockout phase, but will play group games on Saturday and Sunday that will determine seeding in the tournament.

They faced South Korea in their first match and won convincingly.

Star Truls Möregårdh, ranked world number two, started for Sweden and beat An Jae-Hyun 3–1 (ranked 22nd in the world).

Then Anton Källberg produced perhaps the most impressive performance, defeating star Jang Woojin, ranked ninth in the world.

Mattias Karlsson, Sweden's most experienced player, was chosen ahead of Elias Ranefur and defeated Oh Jun-sung in the final match, making it three straight wins.

England await tonight before the group stage ends with a match against China on Sunday.

The World Team Table Tennis Championships for men and women will be held in London from April 28 to May 10.

Sweden's matches:

Saturday: South Korea (win 3–0), England (8:30 p.m.).

Sunday: China (1:30 p.m.).

The other top group on the men's side features France, Japan, Germany and Taiwan. The first round of 16 matches will be played on Monday.

The other national teams will begin by playing in four-team groups - 14 groups in total - with the top six and the six best runners-up advancing to the knockout phase. The other eight runners-up play a knockout round where four teams advance.

The Swedish women are participating in the first phase of the tournament in a group with Costa Rica, Canada and Sri Lanka. On the women's side, the top seven are China, South Korea, Taiwan, Romania, Japan, Germany and France.
