The Swedish Consumer Agency is now pursuing cases against six major retailers to have the tested brushes recalled, the agency writes in a press release.
Several serious accidents have occurred in Sweden and other countries after people used the steel brushes. Bristles can come loose, stick to the grill and end up in food, where they may be accidentally swallowed.
The injuries can be very serious. Examples include intestinal damage requiring emergency surgery.
The Swedish Consumer Agency tested 13 different grill brushes sold by six Swedish retailers - Bauhaus, Biltema, Ica, Jula, Rusta and Weber. The results show that none of the brushes passed the tests.
