Sweden's automotive, iron and steel exports have been hit hard by US President Donald Trump's increased tariffs, according to an analysis from the Swedish Board of Commerce.

The entire EU's exports to the US fell sharply during the first half of this year. For Sweden, goods exports decreased by around 25 percent between the first and second quarters of the year, corresponding to just over twelve billion kronor, according to the Swedish Board of Trade.

This was most noticeable in the sectors of vehicles and vehicle parts and metals.

On average, tariffs on Swedish exports to the US rose from around 1 percent to almost 10 percent during the second quarter. This is a slightly higher average than in the rest of the EU.

"Sweden has been affected by the high tariffs in Swedish heavy export sectors. At the same time, Sweden has less export than the rest of the EU in sectors that received lower tariffs. This means that Sweden's total exports were affected more than exports in the rest of the EU," says Patrik Karpaty, investigator at the Swedish Board of Trade, in a press release.

According to the analysis, exports were unusually high in March, before the tariffs were introduced, when deliveries were brought forward. In the period after that, exports fell sharply.
