Canoeists Martin Nathell, 30, and Melina Andersson, 25, live and train together. Last summer, they both made their Olympic Games debut in Vaires-sur-Marne outside Paris.
Nathell then came seventh in the Olympic Games final on K1 1,000 meters and Andersson finished twelfth on K1 500 meters.
At the European Championship in Racice, Czech Republic, it was double silver joy for the couple.
In the morning, Nathell secured his first individual senior medal when he crossed the finish line in second place on the Olympic Games distance – a narrow second after the winner Fernando Pimenta, Portugal.
It's completely incredible to be able to perform such a race. There are many hours behind it. It's something I've been fighting for an incredibly long time, says Martin Nathell to SVT.
He was a hundredth of a second ahead of third-placed Bálint Kopasz, Hungary, who took Olympic Games bronze last year. The Swede also had Olympic Games gold medalist and home favorite Josef Dostál (fourth) behind him at the finish line in the European Championship final.
I made a very good start that I've been working on all season. I got good speed with me and could maintain it, says the 30-year-old, who has previously won both gold and silver at the World Championship in K2 1,000 meters with Dennis Kernen and Joakim Lindberg, respectively.
In the afternoon, girlfriend Melina Andersson struck on K1 1,000 meters.
The Swede, who took both European Championship and World Championship bronze on the distance last year, was around four seconds behind winner Zsoka Csikos, Hungary, at the finish line.
Andersson's silver was never threatened. She was over a second ahead of third-placed Laura Pedruelo, Spain.
