According to the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, 94 percent of Sweden's 471 EU-bathing sites have excellent, good or satisfactory bathing water quality. The number of Swedish EU-bathing sites where the bathing water quality is classified as excellent has increased to 362, 77 percent.

At the same time, the number of EU-bathing sites where the bathing water is classified as poor has been halved ahead of 2025 compared to ahead of 2024. Several of the Swedish bathing sites with poor water quality are located in Lake Mälaren and have been able to be reclassified since the City of Stockholm has managed to address the sources of pollution, according to the agency.

In Sweden, the bathing sites that have an average of more than 200 bathers per day during the bathing season are to be registered as EU-bathing sites. In Sweden, there are over 2,600 bathing sites registered by the municipalities on the website Badplatsen. Of these, 471 are EU-bathing sites.
