Mats Jonsson's book is about the unusually tall Sami girl Stina Larsdotter, who was exhibited for payment throughout Europe in the mid-19th century.
Sara Lundberg's picture book is a dreamy depiction of how a child unties the knot to a small boat, glides away from its mother – and comes back as someone else.
Among the competitors for the prize, for example, is one of Finland's contributions, Linda Bondestam's picture book "Chop Chop – a brave earth dweller's tale", which was awarded the August Prize in the children's and young adult book category last year. But also the Norwegian Bibi Fatima Musa's acclaimed young adult book "Girls like me", about a Muslim girl born and raised in Norway.
This year's prize winner will be announced on 21 October. The prize itself, a statuette and a prize sum of 300,000 kronor, will be awarded in connection with the Nordic Council's session in Stockholm on 28 October.
