The mogul skier, who took one of Sweden's eight Olympic gold medals in Beijing in February 2022, received clearance on Wednesday to travel to the Winter Games in Italy, during the Swedish Olympic Committee's (SOK) camp in Chania on Crete.
A message that creates calm for Walter Wallberg. He missed both the freestyle World Championship in Switzerland and several World Cup competitions this winter due to injury problems and a torn tendon in one shoulder that needed to be operated on. His latest competition was in December last year.
The shoulder is doing well. It's going according to plan, or very much better than plan. It's very nice. So I'll just try to stick to the plan that exists and not try to force anything, he says to TT.
The 25-year-old is not worried about missing the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
On skis in July
No, there's a clear plan already now. I'll hopefully start skiing at the end of July.
With the selection now, I can choose which competitions I'll ski before the Olympic Games. From when I start skiing, I have six months on me. It feels safe anyway.
Wallberg, the reigning Olympic champion in single mogul, will also compete in the new Olympic event parallel mogul in Italy.
It's going to be incredibly fun with double events during the Olympic Games. We've only had one before, he says.
Hopefully, we'll make it to the final (with Filip Gravenfors). Then it's the one who comes down alive who takes the gold.
Tickets to more gold hopes
Gold hopes like Sara Hector, alpine skiing, Elvira Öberg, biathlon, and cross-country skiers Ebba Andersson, Frida Karlsson and Jonna Sundling also received Olympic tickets on the Greek island.
They are joined by, among others, curling teams Hasselborg and Edin.
I think I've had ten weeks in the area last year. I'm feeling very, very good there. It's going to be fun, says Frida Karlsson at SOK's press conference.
At the same time, injured cross-country skiing star Sandra Näslund, who took another of Sweden's Olympic gold medals, is missing.
The team will be filled with more names up until the Olympic Games, which opens on February 6.
