The operation was the first joint identification operation between Swedish and Finnish air defenses, according to the press release. The operation was led by Finland. During the operation, three different types of Russian aircraft were identified.
"The Finnish and Swedish air forces are responsible for the surveillance and protection of the nations' territorial integrity in the airspace. The deepened cooperation that began this autumn enables joint identification missions and allows combat aircraft in incident readiness to use the other country's air bases," says Colonel Vesa Mäntylä, chief of operations of the air force, in the press release.
