The opening match kicked off at 4 a.m. Monday local time in Sweden.
"We had expected a lot of interest, but not that several thousand people would gather in Kungsträdgården in the middle of the night. It's a very positive problem to have. Now we are moving to the stadium to make room for everyone who wants to join in and cheer on Sweden," says Alexandra Mattsson (V), city councilor, in a press release.
The city of Stockholm will also show the match on big screens in Husby, Tensta and Bredäng. Sweden–Netherlands kicks off at 7:00 p.m. local time in Sweden on Saturday.
