Sweden was the big favorite for the World Cup title in Pori and met all expectations.
Saturday's 9–0 semi-final win over Finland was followed by a 9–1 victory in Sunday's final.
The Swedes set the tone right away.
Only three minutes had been played when Västerås forward Edit Ljung scored to make it 1–0, assisted by Villa-Lidköping's Moa Friman, who had a total of four assists in the final.
Tilda Ström and Ella Oskarsson added to the score for the Swedes, who took a 3–0 lead into halftime. Both teams also missed a penalty in the first half.
When Tova Grönoset scored to make it 4–0 ten minutes into the second half, the gold medal was more or less secured.
Sweden scored six goals in the second half, with Tilda Ström scoring the most in the match with a hat trick. Västerås forward Edit Ljung scored two of the goals.
Like Tilda Ström, defender Sanna Gustafsson also won her fifth World Cup gold medal.
Only once since the Women's World Cup started has Sweden missed out on gold, in 2014 in Finland when Russia defeated Sweden in the final.
Russia is suspended from the World Cup due to the war of aggression against Ukraine.
