The proposal for a Swedish "mafia law" is not new, but it is now being presented as an election promise.

It is a type of legislation that we know has worked in other countries precisely to strike against the structures of organized crime, says the S leader.

Within the framework of this law, S also wants to see different types of restrictive measures against gang criminals.

This could involve prosecutors deciding to impose a ban on contact with other gang criminals, restrictions on traveling abroad, starting businesses, owning dogs that are used to intimidate others or transferring large sums of money, says legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho.

"Shock increase the pressure"

S also has proposals to go after the gangs' money. The party wants to transform the Economic Crime Authority into the Swedish Agency for Organized Crime, in order to "step up" the work against organized economic crime.

They also want tougher penalties for particularly serious economic crimes in the same way as there are today for assault crimes, for example, according to Carvalho.

We Social Democrats will dramatically increase the pressure against organized crime, against street gangs, against clans and against the mafia in suits, she says.

"Enemies of the Swedish people"

S also reiterates the proposal that young people on the way into crime should be "spot-marked", through a companion or with electronic monitoring if necessary.

The party also wants to establish a national "at-risk family program" to protect children who grow up in families where there is crime.

"We must dare to say it like it is: that organized crime is not just an isolated crime problem. It is the enemy of the Swedish state and the Swedish people," says Carvalho.
