The number of children born per woman – 1.43 – was last year the lowest number recorded, according to SCB's population statistics. The number of children born was for the first time since 2003 less than 100,000.
At the same time, the number of elderly is increasing and more are expected to pass away. Together with the fact that fewer are immigrating, it means that the population is growing more slowly than in recent years.
Up to the year 2030, Sweden's population is expected to increase by approximately 90,000 to 10.7 million. It is estimated that there will be more deaths than births, but since more are immigrating than emigrating, the population will still increase.
