Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) states on X that "this is not how a country seeking peace acts".
"Outraged"
The EU Council President António Costa writes on the same platform that he is "outraged".
"Russia continues its violent campaign and shows again that this war exists and continues solely because Russia has chosen it", he writes and continues:
"The EU will always stand with Ukraine's heroic people."
The attack is condemned by several European leaders, including the UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italy's Giorgia Meloni.
Undermining talks
"A barbaric attack, made even more despicable by the fact that people had gathered peacefully to celebrate Palm Sunday", writes EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on X.
French President Emmanuel Macron points out that Russia's continued attacks undermine the US-led talks on a ceasefire.
"Everyone knows: this war was initiated by Russia alone. And today, it is clear that Russia alone chooses to continue it – with an obvious lack of respect for human life, international law, and President Trump's diplomatic efforts", writes Macron on X.
