Sweden's embassy in Lebanon is to resume its operations on site in Beirut again. For security reasons, the embassy has been relocated to Nicosia in Cyprus since August 3.

"The embassy staff are now being relocated to Beirut, in order to more easily follow the development of events on site, together with other countries, in the escalating situation. The main objective is to, in addition to the support already offered, such as the possibility of consular economic assistance according to the regulations, have the capability to assist Swedish citizens who need passports to be able to leave Lebanon", writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release.

In October last year, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs issued the strongest form of warning against travel to Lebanon, and has urged all Swedish citizens in Lebanon to leave the country.

"The security situation in Lebanon has deteriorated, with cancelled flights and a reduced number of available tickets as a result. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs urges Swedes who are still in Lebanon to try to book a seat on available flights as soon as possible", wrote the department's press service in an email to TT on Wednesday.

About ten countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and the Netherlands, have decided to help their citizens return home from conflict-affected areas in the Middle East. The Swedish government and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs have not given any such signals so far.
