"What a thriller! We stepped up when we needed to. It was a great team effort," says Gun Hindgren to the Swedish Volleyball Association's website.
Sweden's women's volleyball team continues to make an impact in Europe. In the first stage of the European League, the team won all six of its matches and lost only one set. In Saturday's first semi-final away against Hungary, the Swedish success continued. But for a long time it looked like the Swedes would have to give up.
Sweden won the first set 25-21, but then the home team took over. Hungary won the second set 25-18 and the third 25-14.
The fourth set also looked set to go to Hungary. The team led by four points at the end of the set, but Sweden made a sensational comeback and won 25-22.
In the fifth and decisive set, the Swedes were down two points, but won seven straight points and took the set 15-12.
"When it came to five sets, we were probably the hungriest," says Hindgren.
Isabelle Haak was the top scorer for Sweden with 32 points, followed by Anna Haak with 13 and Gun Hindgren and Hanna Hellvig with 9 each.
The return leg will be played in Örebro on Wednesday.
