Sweden once again tops the EU's gender equality index – just like in all previous years.

The annual index has been calculated since 2010 using a range of different criteria for gender equality in terms of work, studies, health and more.

This time Sweden lands at 73.7 out of a maximum of 100 points – just ahead of France at 73.4 and Denmark at 71.8. Last year Denmark was second and the Netherlands third in the table.

At the bottom is Cyprus, with an index figure of 47.6.

"It is gratifying that Sweden continues to lead the way . . . At the same time, there are still major challenges to be addressed. Not least when it comes to men's violence against women and women's role as project leaders for everyday life," writes Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson (L) in a press release .
