Of the deceased, 155 were men and 58 were women. Eleven were children under 18 years old.

More than half of the fatalities affected people who were traveling in motor vehicles, so-called protected road users. 70 car drivers and 33 passengers died. It was also this category that accounted for the decrease.

99 of the fatalities involved unprotected road users: motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The number was the same as in 2023.

Of the children who died, which was one fewer than the previous year, seven were traveling in a car and three were pedestrians. In the long term, the proportion of children among the deceased is decreasing – from around twelve percent in the 1980s to five percent in the last decade.

21 people are believed to have taken their own lives in traffic during the year and are excluded from the accident statistics.

Last year was the sixth in a row with fewer than 230 fatalities, notes the authority Trafikanalys, which also notes that an intermediate goal of 133 fatalities by 2030 can be achieved if the trend continues.
