Both of Sweden's European Curling teams lost to Swiss opposition in the opening matches in Lohja, Finland. However, when Team Anna Hasselborg got a second chance, against Scotland, Sweden's first victory came.

Team Niklas Edin lost 4–8. The match against Team Yannick Schwaller was over after nine rounds.

The curling hall in Lohja is not a favorite for Edin's team, who missed the playoffs last year, when the European Championships were played at the same venue.

“Like the location”

Niklas Edin told TT earlier this year that the ice is very difficult to play on because the hall lacks a dehumidifier. That is why this year's European Championships are seen as a key competition and a rehearsal for the Olympics.

The ice will be really bad, frankly, the ice will be very frosty. There is a risk that it will be like that at the Olympics as well, he said.

We have to enjoy the situation and try to perform well regardless.

Team Anna Hasselborg lost the first match against Switzerland 5–10. A Swiss 5–0 in the seventh round, with the score tied at 4–4, decided the match.

Got quick revenge

Switzerland has dominated women's curling in recent years, but it has been a different team than the one currently playing in the European Championships. The Alpine nation has sent Team Corrie Hürlimann to the European Championships in Finland and not Team Silvana Tirinzoni, who has won two straight European Championships gold medals and has also won the World Championships four times since 2019.

Team Hürlimann is actually ranked third in Switzerland, but won the European Championship qualifiers.

For Sweden, the silver medalists at the European Championships last year, the tournament is an important preparation for the Olympics in February. All countries in the European Championships, with the exception of Switzerland (Team Tirinzoni playing at the Olympics), have sent their Olympic teams to the European Championships, writes Dagens Nyheter .

Team Anna Hasselborg played the next match late on Saturday, against Scotland. After an even game, the Swedes were able to pull out the win, winning 7–6.
