It was on February 19 this year that Leif GW Persson strongly took a stand against the use of semi-automatic weapons like AR-15 in hunting. The criminologist argued that those who want to use AR-15 may be up to other things.
The segment in the SVT program "Veckan" was, however, disputed and about fifty people reported the segment to the Broadcasting Commission for radio and TV, claiming it was biased and gave a misleading picture of the weapon and its users.
Now, the Broadcasting Commission has ruled that the segment in "Veckan" should be acquitted.
"The Broadcasting Commission notes that the participating criminologist is the program's recurring expert and that part of his role in the program is to express his personal opinion, which is also assumed to be clear to the audience," writes the Media Authority in a press release.
Among other things, the segment was balanced by the participation of a former politician and the program host Camilla Kvartoft asking critical questions.
"The Commission therefore assesses that the criminologist's statements were not an unauthorized stance in breach of the requirement for impartiality."
