A high-ranking official close to then Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) revealed information about travel plans and Sweden's negotiation strategy in 2022, reports SVT.

The security incident occurred days before the NATO summit in Madrid in June 2022, when Sweden was formally invited to join NATO. The top official was reportedly sitting in a lounge at Arlanda and speaking on speakerphone.

The conversation, which was heard by at least one person nearby, is said to have discussed the Prime Minister's travel plans and a meeting with the US, unknown to the public, that her State Secretary Oscar Stenström (S) was to hold, writes SVT, citing information.

Furthermore, the official is said to have discussed what Sweden could and could not do to meet the demands from Turkey, which was then blocking Sweden's accession to the defense alliance.

The Government Offices were informed of the incident. According to SVT, the assessment was that the official had acted inappropriately and without judgment, but that no report to the Security Service was necessary.

"Based on the information available, there was no reason to believe that classified information was revealed in the telephone conversation," the Government Offices' press service wrote in an email to SVT.

According to the channel, the person continues to hold a high position at the Government Offices.
