The knowledge offering will instead be integrated into SVT2, UR Play and SVT Play.
Knowledge content is a central part of SVT's strategy, says SVT's media director Naja Nielsen. According to her, Kunskapskanalen as an independent channel is no longer the best way to discover its content. In addition, the channel is small and has lost many viewers in recent years.
At the same time, it is natural that in a phase where we are making savings we look at where we can focus our resources. It is a cost reduction linked to operating four linear channels, Nielsen tells TT.
Broadcasts on the linear channel SVT Barn will also be reduced - after the turn of the year, children's programs will be broadcast there between 5am and 11am and 7pm and 8pm, instead of all day. However, the children's offering in general will not be reduced, but will mainly be published on SVT Play.
Naja Nielsen says that children and parents are the most digital audience - "Most people don't watch children's programs via linear channels, but digitally."
"When we have a smaller budget, it is important that we use it where it is most beneficial for the audience," she says.
The changes will take place at the turn of the year.
