Suspected Terror Brothers' Conversations: Must See Blood

Praise for terrorist murders of Swedes in Brussels and discussions about synagogues as suitable targets. The discussions in an Islamic association's premises in Tyresö were wiretapped by Säpo for months. Now they will be a key part of the terror trial that begins this week.

The 7th of March, the Security Service (Säpo) struck against the premises and several other locations in Tyresö. The assessment was that they had to act to "avert a possible attack".

This week, four people were charged following the raid.

Three of them – including two brothers with Swedish parents who converted to Islam in their teenage years – are charged with preparing for terrorist crimes. Along with a 60-year-old man, they are also suspected of participating in a terrorist organization – accused of having sworn allegiance to IS in Somalia.

Terror in Brussels

The conversations intercepted in the surveillance of the premises and phone calls will be crucial evidence for the prosecution in the trial that begins on Tuesday.

In a conversation from December 8, the person believed to be the older of the brothers, now 25 years old, is heard talking to an unknown man. They discuss the shooting in Brussels a few days earlier, when two Swedes were murdered by an Islamist terrorist.

It seemed a bit unplanned if I'm being honest, says the unknown.

There are better "targets". But anyway, he got martyrdom, replies the 25-year-old about the man who was shot dead at a café after the attack.

The other thinks the terrorist "could have done it better".

Exactly, but he did something. It's at least better than nothing, says the 25-year-old.

In another conversation in December, the 25-year-old is heard talking to a man about getting "help to get on the news". He asks if the man knows any young guys who can help.

Try to find in Rinkeby. Check if anyone is willing, he says.

Willing for what?

To become a kebab on the news, says the 25-year-old and laughs.

The War in Gaza

Several of the conversations revolve around the Gaza war, and that they "should do something". The 25-year-old mentions possible targets.

Synagogues, yani what else is there? Can you harm this government? Can you get as many as possible, you harm society as much as possible. You have to see blood. If we don't do anything, we accept that our brothers and sisters are being killed, he says.

In the same discussion, he talks about it being okay to harm children.

People around can become "collateral damage", yani children, it's allowed. Why? Because they were not your "target". It all depends on what you want. If others get hurt on the way, you're not responsible. It wasn't your intention.

All the defendants deny the charges. The 25-year-old has consistently replied "no comment" or remained silent during the interrogations.

Three of the four defendants are suspected of preparing for terrorist crimes.

According to the indictment, they have possessed a pistol with the intention of killing or harming others in the name of the Islamic State. They are also charged with aggravated weapons offenses due to the alleged possession of the weapon.

All four are suspected of participating in a terrorist organization, by acting on behalf of IS in Somalia. This they have done, according to the indictment, by maintaining contact with IS members in Somalia and receiving instructions from them about terrorist acts to be carried out.

All four deny the charges.
