The suspected rape took place in a residence on Sunday morning. The man, who is in his mid-20s, then left the residence, but police were able to locate him using surveillance cameras. He was subsequently arrested in central Umeå, the police write on their website.
After the man was questioned, he was arrested as a reasonable suspect, a lower level of suspicion.
The man and woman are known to each other, according to police.
