Three people working at the Academic Hospital in Uppsala are suspected of having been poisoned. The police are investigating the incident as attempted murder. Of course this feels unpleasant, an employee tells Upsala Nya Tidning.

The victims work in the same department and fell ill quickly, according to police. One fell ill on October 25, the other two on November 3.

"All three of the staff fell ill quite close together with similar symptoms and all needed intensive care. What we are trying to find out now is whether they may have been poisoned," police spokesman Stefan Larsson told TT.

They do not want to say exactly what symptoms they suffered from, but the police told Aftonbladet that the situation was life-threatening.

Waiting for test results

The three people have been discharged from the hospital and have been interviewed by the police, who have also taken samples to find out why they have become ill.

There is no suspect in the case.

We need to wait for the results of the samples taken to be able to move forward in the investigation. At the stage we are in now, it is too early to lock ourselves in on a theory, we are working with the usual wide glasses – but there has been a suspicion that they may have been poisoned, says Stefan Larsson.

The hospital has reviewed the course of events together with the security unit and the chief physician.

Working at the children's hospital

According to UNT, those affected work at Akademiska Children's Hospital.

There is currently nothing to indicate that the cases of illness have been caused by something in the water or air system, the indoor environment or the handling of medicines, says Sofia Arwehed, operations manager at the children's hospital, to Aftonbladet.

She says that the people are doing well under the circumstances.

Another employee, who also works in the department in question, calls the incident "unpleasant."

"Will it affect the patients, or what is going on? That's how it feels, we don't know what it is," the person tells UNT.
