The information about the suspected poisoning comes from the woman herself, who at the hospital stated that she believed she had been poisoned, writes the Berlin police on X.
She is not named by the police, but was quickly identified by Der Spiegel as being very close to the Russian opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza.
This led to speculation that the woman had been exposed to nerve poison. Her blood, clothes, and apartment are being examined as part of the investigation, according to the Berlin police.
Several German media outlets reported that the woman is Vladimir Kara-Murza's mother. The regime critic himself writes on Telegram that she is in the hospital, but that the doctors have not yet been able to confirm that she was poisoned.
Vladimir Kara-Murza had been sentenced to 25 years in prison in Russia, but was part of a prisoner exchange in August this year and currently lives in Berlin. In Russia, he was the target of two attempted poisonings.
