The man is suspected of having committed fraud through a cryptocurrency company he was CEO of. When the company, which was active between 2019 and 2022, went bankrupt, it had three million customers worldwide.

He ended his service as an intelligence officer three years before he started the company. The Swedish Armed Forces state to the radio channel that they are "aware of the incident" and a security risk report has been initiated.

The fact that the man owes money to others may pose a security risk, according to Jörgen Holmlund, a teacher of intelligence analysis at the Swedish Defence University. His skills risk being exploited by foreign powers and criminals.

If you are aware of security-sensitive activities somewhere, it is a value in itself to report, he says to the radio channel.
