The men recently arrived in Brazil from Congo-Kinshasa and Uganda, respectively.
The Ugandan man who tested negative for Ebola was previously reported to be showing “viral symptoms such as cough, chills and diarrhea,” but has now been diagnosed with malaria. However, he will remain in isolation in Rio de Janeiro until the investigation is complete.
The second man is being isolated in São Paulo with a fever and has been diagnosed with a severe form of meningitis. He will undergo further tests to rule out Ebola.
1,077 suspected cases of Ebola, of which 246 have died, have been confirmed, according to the African Union's disease control agency, Africa CDC.
