The incident occurred in the northern part of Umeå around 6:30 p.m.
It is an attempted murder because serious violence was used against the victim, says Eric Rönnholm, a police officer.
Two men between 30 and 40 years old were later arrested. Both are suspected of attempted murder and have been detained.
The injured man is in serious but stable condition. According to the police, the three men are known to each other.
The police state that searches were carried out at several addresses after the incident.
