The suspect in the Brown University shooting has been found dead, police say. He is also believed to have been responsible for the murder of an MIT professor days after the shooting, according to prosecutors.

Despite an extensive police operation, the suspected perpetrator had not been found, but he has now been found dead in a storage room. According to the police, he had taken his own life.

The man suspected of the attack was a 48-year-old Portuguese national who had previously studied at Brown. He is believed to have acted alone.

Two students were killed and nine others were injured in Saturday's attack at the prestigious Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

According to prosecutor Leah B Foley, the suspect is also believed to be responsible for the murder of an MIT professor on Monday. Professor Nuno Loureiro was shot in his home and died in hospital on Tuesday.

The suspect and Loureiro attended the same program at a university in Portugal between 1995 and 2000, according to Foley.
