The Swedish Armed Forces are forced to pay damages in the matter of PFAS contamination from the airfield at Ärna in Uppsala, reports P4 Uppland.
It is clear since the Supreme Court decided not to grant the case leave to appeal.
It was in 2012 that Uppsala Vatten discovered PFAS contamination in soil and groundwater. According to the municipal company – which has since then purified the drinking water to an acceptable level – the contamination comes from firefighting foam used by the Swedish Armed Forces at Ärna airbase in the municipality.
This view was shared by the Land and Environment Court of Appeal at Svea Court of Appeal, which last year ruled that the Swedish Armed Forces must compensate Uppsala Vatten for the costs of the purification.
The Swedish Armed Forces appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court, which has now decided not to take up the case.
