The man was sentenced in the district court to 14 years in prison for attempted murder. The Court of Appeal then reduced the sentence to 12 years in prison and deportation.
However, according to the Supreme Court, it would be disproportionate to deport him, despite the serious crime.
The man is a citizen of another country but has no ties to it. According to the decision, he has never been there, does not speak the language and has no relatives in the country.
The High Court notes that he speaks Swedish, attended primary and secondary school, and has had family, work and a girlfriend in Sweden.
