"They have the right to good care and education, but our results show that there are still major shortcomings," says Director General Björn Eriksson in a press release.

A survey shows that the use of medication is widespread. In addition, antipsychotic medications are primarily used for non-psychotic conditions, such as anxiety and insomnia.

"Acting-out behaviors, but also anxiety and sleep problems, should primarily be treated with other care interventions or different medications," says Anne-Katrin Kantzer, medical expert at the National Board of Health and Welfare.

The second survey shows that just under half of the young people who have been in community care have upper secondary school qualifications by the age of 17.
