On March 14, 2018, Lindsey Vonn took her 82nd World Cup victory.
December 12, 2025 marked the 83rd anniversary of the all-time alpine speed queen.
Vonn not only won the first downhill race of the season, in St. Moritz, Switzerland. She completely crushed the opposition by swiping across the finish line more than a second ahead of Mirjam Puchner, Austria, who had been in the lead until then.
Late starter Magdalena Egger, also from Austria, did squeeze into second place, but was still a full 0.98 seconds behind Vonn. Puchner was third, 1.16 seconds behind.
Lindsey Vonn turned 41 in October and is now the oldest World Cup winner of all time – by a wide margin. The previous record for women was held by Italian Federica Brignone, who was 34. Among the men, Swiss Didier Cuche (37) is the oldest.
Vonn made a comeback last season after a five-year hiatus. There have been many doubters about her return, even though the American is one of the best alpine skiers in history with an Olympic gold medal, two World Championship gold medals and numerous World Cup victories.
She already showed last winter that she is still at the highest level, when she came second in the super-G at the World Cup final in Sun Valley, USA. And now she has started the Olympic season – the Winter Games in Italy in February is the big goal – in dazzling fashion.
