The paramilitary group RSF, one of the two parties in the civil war in Sudan, says it is declaring a three-month unilateral ceasefire.

The RSF (Rapid Support Forces) is carrying out a brutal offensive in Darfur province, among other places. There are widespread suspicions of war crimes being committed in the city of al-Fashir (El-Fasher), which was captured after a long siege.

The announcement of a declared ceasefire came on Monday, while mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire are underway, with the United States and the United Arab Emirates, among others, acting as mediators.

RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, made the announcement in a video recording, reports the AFP news agency.

The army has not commented on the information about RSF's proposal for a ceasefire.

Sudan's army, which is the opposing party in the civil war and is supported by, among others, Saudi Arabia, rejected mediation proposals on Sunday as the United Arab Emirates was seen as biased.

The United Arab Emirates is accused of actively supporting RSF in the civil war, something the country denies.
