It is not primarily their own mobile phones that are used in an unauthorized manner, according to the investigation. Instead, many violate the rules for the computers and tablets they have received from school.
Unauthorized use of the school's computers – mainly through computer gaming – occurred at 22 of the 60 schools.
”Our observations show that the unauthorized use is most common in those parts of the lesson when the students are doing individual work. It also occurs in several cases of unauthorized use during pair and group work, as well as during transitions between different lesson activities”, notes the investigator Roger Thuring in a press release.
