"If they are true, it is very serious," says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a written comment.
Strömmer points out that Russia is the biggest security threat to Sweden.
"Pro-Russian views have no place in parties that want to take responsibility for Sweden. If the information about this employee is true, SD must obviously act and ensure that the employee is allowed to leave his job," Strömmer says.
“Arouses uncertainty”
According to him, SD has been behind Sweden's support for Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia.
"However, these types of opinions can still raise uncertainty about how SD views this. Therefore, it is necessary for SD to act and, if true, ensure that the employee is allowed to leave their job immediately."
According to Expo's investigation, the official, who moved from Russia to Sweden in 2006, shared articles and posts with Russian narratives from Russian state bodies and the state-controlled media company RT, as well as from channels known for Russian propaganda and disinformation, between 2015 and 2017. The person has also shared a tribute song to Russian President Putin on social media with heart emojis and the comment "people sing about their love for the president."
Conspiracy theories
But the official is also alleged to have shared pro-Russian content as recently as 2024 and 2025 and to have previously spread conspiracy theories.
Patrik Oksanen, an expert at the think tank Frivärld, which works with opinion formation in foreign and security policy, believes in a comment on Expo's review that the person has contributed to "normalizing the Russian perspective, creating polarization and, among other things, undermining trust in Swedish media."
Is on parental leave
SD's press department writes in an email to TT that the person "has been publicly strongly critical of the regime in Russia in recent years."
"We will of course take a closer look at these serious claims, but with that said, as an employer we have procedures for hiring. All our secretaries undergo a security check, as do all our civil servants in the government offices," the press department writes.
The press department states that the person is currently on parental leave.
