Johann Strauss's waltz "An der schönen blauen Donau" was broadcast into space on Saturday by the European Space Agency's (ESA) large radio antenna in Spain.
The waltz was sent to the most distant unmanned space probe Voyager 1, which is over 24 billion kilometers away. The music is moving at the speed of light and is expected to pass Voyager 1 within a day.
The Danube Waltz has a special significance for space enthusiasts since it was featured in Stanley Kubrick's film "Year 2001 – A Space Odyssey".
The launch of the music was made on the occasion of Strauss's 200th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of ESA's founding.
