A week before the 2022 Paralympics, Arnt-Christian Furuberg fell ill with COVID-19 and missed the Games in Beijing. Now the cross-country skier gets a second chance. Furuberg is one of nine para-athletes who will receive a ticket to the Paralympics in Milan and Cortina in March.

The Swedish Paralympic Committee is expanding the blue-and-yellow squad for the Paralympics in Italy, which will take place in March.

In addition to Arnt-Christian Furuberg, the squad is growing with two more cross-country skiers in the form of Ellen Westerlund and Alice Morelius. All three are making their Paralympic debuts.

"It makes me very happy and proud to be able to introduce three debutants to the Swedish squad. It has been over 20 years since we had such a large cross-country team at the Paralympics, which proves that our long-term investments are starting to pay off," says Swedish squad manager Niclas Grön in a press release.

Alpine skier Arvid Skoglund, who made his debut in 2022, has also been selected. The national wheelchair curling team, consisting of Viljo Petersson Dahl (skip), Kristina Ulander, Ronny Persson, Sabina Johansson and Marcus Holm, has also been selected. All but Holm were on the team that won silver in Beijing four years ago.

Holm has participated in six Paralympics, but those were as a para ice hockey player.

Ebba Årsjö (alpine), Aaron Lindström (alpine) and Zebastian Modin (cross-country skiing), with guide Emil Talsi, have already been selected.

The Paralympics will be held March 6–15.
