The police report is based on information that appeared in an article on the editorial page of Svenska Dagbladet, according to Eva Debels, who heads the electoral committee's office in the City of Stockholm, the radio reports.
According to Debels, the authority's own information and the claims in the article differ.
We have concluded that the information is best handled by the police, she tells SVT Nyheter Stockholm.
The editorial is based on anonymous testimonies from voters in Järva in northwestern Stockholm.
During the early voting, we did not receive any information that was worthy of a police report. However, we did receive information that was not appropriate, including marked ballot papers, Debels tells SVT.
The Left Party's party secretary Maria Forsberg commented on the information in the editorial to Expressen earlier on Thursday:
"This is an insinuating editorial with anonymous sources that plays on racist ideas currently being spread by the Sweden Democrats and the Moderates. They call citizens' democratic participation clan voting and call them voting cattle. It is a suspicion that threatens democracy," Forsberg wrote to the newspaper.
On Thursday, the Moderates in Stockholm requested that the municipal board be convened to begin its own investigation immediately.
"If only half of what appears in Svenska Dagbladet is true, it's a disaster. Then there are parts of Stockholm that have not had free and fair elections," Christofer Fjellner, a Moderate opposition city councillor in Stockholm, told Expressen.
