There are still large differences between the average mortgage interest rates of different banks. For a loan of 2 million, there can be a difference of 4,500 kronor per year, according to a compilation by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.

According to the compilation, the average mortgage interest rate is 2.76 percent in September. For the eight largest mortgage banks, there is a difference of 0.23 percentage points between the one with the highest and lowest average mortgage interest rates.

The Financial Supervisory Authority also notes that interest rate discounts have become significantly higher in recent years. In September, the average interest rate discount was 96 basis points. Five years ago, the average interest rate discount was 54 basis points.

"It shows that the list interest rate has played its role. We want the banks to base their decision on the average interest rate," says Moa Langemark, consumer protection economist at FI, in a press release.
